I emailed Gigabyte on the 11th asking about the availability of this board in the US. Here is the whole interaction:

Question : I am waiting for NForce 4, and I just read an article on your new K8NXP-9, which I must say, looks very nice. I was wondering when it will be available to buy in the USA.

Answer : Hello,
The model will be released in early December, and should be available in retail mid December.

Bummer, if Xpress 200 beats it to the shelves, the it looks like I will be going with ATI.

That does suck, but I expect Asus to still make an early december timeframe, so there should be alternatives. Also, I imagine Gigabyte is playing it conservative in telling you when it will be available, so that you'll be pleasantly surprised if it's early, not pissed if it's late. Personally, I wouldn't go with Xpress 200 even if NF4 was delayed, the feature set just sucks, and the models that have been announced kinda blow (only ones i've seen planned so far are budget boards and way overpriced micro-ATX ones). Besides, the earliest ETA I've seen on any ATI board is 12-29-04, so i don't exactly think it will hit market first, anyway.

BTW, where did you find a $160 X700 Pro, or $168 Geil DDR500? Those look pretty nice, I'd like to find some deals like those!

Yeah looks like youre right, that board on monarch went from 12/3 to 12/29. As for the video card and ram, I bought them on EBay, and I know lots of people have issues with reliability of EBay etc. but you can really get some sweet deals. Good to hear that Asus will be one of the first, I would be happy to buy an Asus, but I hope it has some overclocking features, because that was one really attractive thing for me about the Gigabyte, because the Geil that I am getting supports up to 3.1 V(I think under warranty??). We will see, basically the decider for me is which boards will be out by the first week of december.

newegg has the x700 pro for $166 for abit, $169 for sapphire.

i figure im gonna hold out for nforce4 and a 6600gt. the 6600gt is a little more pricy (about $180) but it seems to do better in every game not called hl2 (and its still about the same there)

yeah, I prefer the 6600GT too, especially since at pricewatch it is the same ($180) as the X700 Pro, and is faster. Still, if the prices of the X700 Pro continued to drop, say to $150, then I might reconsider the situation. The X700XT is a pretty good performer, but it's just a paperlaunch until ATI gets the next version of silicon out. Right now I'm looking at the XFX 6600GT, because of its dual DVI and what not. I the BFG 6600GT OC looks fantastic, with dual DVI and default overclocking (525MHz/1050MHz), but I can't find it anywhere. I was hoping Bestbuy would have it by now, but I guess not. Has anybody seen it?

BTW, I got that same email from Gigabyte, mid-december for availability.

hi,

i am in the same boat....waiting for the gigabyte board, and then (even later) the new ATI/NV pci-cards. (Probably early january :( ) Means i will probably get the board - but still will need the pci-card. I think then i can as well wait longer 'til BOTH parts are out (board AND card) - and in the meantime maybe read reviews of the gigabyte, msi, asus etc. boards. But i think the gigabyte will be VERY nice :)

Question: How do you know the XP-120 will fit the board ?

btw my (soon to be) specs:

A64 3500+ 90nm
Enermax 465W WhisperII
Gigabyte K8NXP-9
Radeon X850Pro OR NV NV45 pci-e
1 gig OCZ 3200 el rev2
Audigy 2
Hitachi Deskstar 7k250 (160GB) SATA
XP-120

flexy, when you say refresh pci-cards, are you talking about the PCIe graphics refresh cards? If so, I wouldn't waste your time. The specs for ATI's refresh X850 cards are absolutely pathetic. The X850 Pro, XT, and XT PE are just PCIe X800's with a 20MHz core / 40MHz Memory boost. Not only that, but they are dual slot solutions, and they each cost $50 more than the X800 cards they replace. Definitely not worth it to me. As for midrange, I don't think we'll see a midrange refresh for quite a while, since ATI still can't get its X700XT out, and nvidia just released its 6600GT AGP. All in, all, it's hard to recommend waiting, unless you're prepared to wait for a pretty long time (totally new cores generally come out every 18 months, and the 6800/X800 series have been out for 6 months, so that likely means another year for the next compelling core to wait for, plus all the paperlaunches and delays that have been characteristic of pretty much every launch of any product this past year.

thats all nice and good...but i have to get what is available....the X800XTs are NOT available, neither are ANY of the Geforce 6800 GT for pci-express.

The X850XT PE seems to be the only card which might be available in a week or so...and, sometimes, is even CHEAPER than the X800XT or a 6800 GT pcie

I see the X850XT PLATINUM (!) for $449 which is an insane price, considering the performance of the card.

STILL, HOWEVER, yes, also these cards are only refreshes....but i cannot change that...right now i "have" to take whats available :)
