Gigabyte k8ns with Sata

powerup

I have a PATA running right now with Win XP. I plan to use this drive as my backup. Will a Wd 120 Sata need any extra drivers or is this a plug and install Windows situation? Will My Mobo just accept it or will I need to go into the bios? Should I set up in the bios before I take out the old drive to boot from disk? When im ready to delete the old drive, all I need to do is right click it and click format? Will having two Windows drives cause a problem? I may have more questions but whoever answers these thank you very much.

You will need to select your sata drive in the bios as the boot drive first. When installing xp or 2k, you will need to hit F6 when prompted (watch the bottom of the screen - won't stay on long either), put the drivers floppy that came with your mb in and the drivers should be found when they are needed (you will confirm the choice).

When should I set the fisrt boot to cdrom? I have never put a HD in before so. should i set to boot from sata before I uninstall original HD?

you can set the boot order to fdd->cdrom->hdd and leave it there, if there isn't any bootable media in the cd-rom the pc will automatically boot from the hdd

do I need to reinstall all drivers, such as the Gigabyte motherboard drivers? I am being told different things by different people. Here is how i think I should do this please tell me if Im wrong.
1 Set boot to cdrom is bios

2 set Sata drive to 2nd boot

3rd put windows in cdrom

4th turn off comp and uninstall old pata drive

5th install new sata drivewith WD secure connect

6th restart comp if windows recognises hd just keep going with windows
if not then press f6 to install drivers from WD boot disk

7th go along for windows ride and when done shutdown to switch to sata as 1st boot

8th enjoy installing motherboard drivers and updating all the rest of hardware drivers.

9th anything I missed?

thank you whom ever helps me out here.

between 7 and 8, install any SP's or patches - these should be looked on as part of the windows installation.

GOOD Luck
