Do you see the little fan with the gold mesh over it? It is where the nVIDIA nFORCE 3 250 chip is located,

Well that little fan that you saw, is driving my bonkers. It makes a very annoying high pitched wine.

Now, if you go to newegg and search for all mother boards with this particular chipset in it.
Here take a look
You will see that almost all other if not all other board have a heat sink on that chip.

So my question is this, surely that fan is not necessary correct?? Where can I find a heat sink that would fit that chip??

You can use Speedfan (Speed02) to change the speed of the fan on the KN8S Pro. I have it set to 20% during normal operation and to 100% when the CPU temperature reaches 50 C. It's completely stable and at 20% it is inaudible.

If you want to remove completely the fan I think the Zalman chipset cooler should work. Just removing the fan and using only the included heatsink without the fan didn't work for me as it crashed very often.

I would also like to install the Zalman and be able to forget about Speedfan. If you try the Zalman please let us know the results.
