Gigabyte inf driver update

Hey guys,

I figured I would update my inf driver on my EP35-DS3R 2.1 mobo since I've been using the original one that came on the disc. Well going to the Gigabyte website they have 8.3.1.1011, but on Intel's own website they only have 8.3.1.1009. Upon executing the utility from Gigabyte's site, the readme before install says "Target Chipset# X38/48 and 3200/3210. Shouldn't it say P35? Did Gigabyte put the wrong driver up on it's support page for the EP35-DS3R?

"Target chipset" just refers to "newly supported chipsets", but also includes support for older Intel chipsets.
These are the "latest" driver versions:

Oh ok thanks. How come Intel doesn't have the latest driver on their own site? Maybe I am just not seeing it.

Keep in mind these are not "drivers", per se, but device .INF files that merely provide configuration information, device ID support, and name strings. The actual "drivers" for all devices supported by the INF Installation Utility are the default Microsoft drivers. If you already installed a version of the Intel Chipset INF Installation Utility that supported your chipset, and there were no problems during the installation, there will be no improvements gained by installing a newer release.

The default behavior of the Intel installer is to check for a previous successful installation of the INF utility (via registry key). If a previous installation completed successfully, and there are no applicable changes specified in the installer routine, the installer will report it completed successfully then exit without actually making changes. It will only make changes when no prior successful installation can be confirmed, a current device was not previously installed/configured, or an applicable device ID change has been specified by Intel.

You can override the default behavior and instruct the installer to update all devices by passing the -overall parameter to the installer from command line. e.g. C:\infinst\setup.exe -overall

This should be done on the setup.exe extracted from the ZIP packaged version. If you run this command line on the executable package, it likely will not pass the parameter to the installer correctly.

Since Intel hasn't made a ZIP package of the latest INF utility available for download yet, I extracted the setup files from the 9.0.0.1008PV executable and repackaged them as ZIP:

Wow, thanks for an incredible response tcsenter! I guess I won't install the latest release then since no problems happened with the first install, but thanks for the good info and I'm sure that zip package will come in handy for others reading.:beer:
