What's going on with Nvidia?
Is it out to kill AMD?
I'm seeing boat loads of 460/470 and even 480 going for broke lately.
I picked up the 480 plus my favorite game Mafia2 for $350 (AR).
Another holy smoking deal, nonetheless.
No bonus game this time.

Wondering the same thing. But I think it's more a function of the economy looking like it's taking another leg back down again. There's a good chance this Christmas season is going to suck bad for retailers. I've been tempted on the 2 $250 GTX 470 offers by Giga & Palit, but am resisting moving as I sense we're going to be seeing some massive sales all over very shortly.

no, there are two things happening:

1. nvidia isn't selling any gpus at current prices, so they cut prices.
2. tsmc finally appears to be able to make a decent # of 40nm gpus, so nvidia can get aggressive on prices without costing them $$$.

These prices are very tempting; however, they don't change the fact that I have $0 spare money right now :p.

1. ATI fans will still buy a $350+ 5870 over a $250 card with similar performance up to 1920x1200. The price/performance value ratio for these buyers is not enough to overcome the negatives, being heat/fan noise of high-end Fermi cards.

2. It could be most systems don't have quality 500W+ PSUs, which makes 470 and 480 non-contenders.

3. NV could be trying to clear their inventory for possible GTX475/485 parts.

4. The majority of those who wanted a faster videocard have probably upgraded from September 2009 until now. Therefore, there is a smaller demand for discrete high end videocards at the moment. Not to mention that during back to school season, most are looking to purchase laptops over desktops.

5. With Medal of Honor and Crysis 2 not launching for a while, some may be taking a wait and see approach until HD6000 series launches.
