Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Revision 1.1 - COIL WHINE

Hello everybody!

I've recently bought a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Rev. 1.1: I've run lots of tests and benchmarks and...yeah, that's an amazing card.

However, I've noticed that the card is affected by a little bit of coil noise. The buzzy sound is not loud at all: I can only hear it if I put my ear 20 cm. away from the card with the case opened.
I'd like to know if the coil whine will compromise the video card or its longevity.

I have 25 days to ask the reseller for a completely refund or a free replacement.

If the coil noise drives you mad and makes you smash the card with a hammer, then yes, it will compromise the graphics card and its longevity.

thank you very much for your answer.

No, the noise can't be heard unless you put your ear at 20 cm. from the card with the case opened.
My PC stays one meter from me and I can't hear anything apart the CPU cooling fan.

So there's nothing to be worried about, is it? :|

That 970 is good enough for most 1080p gaming with 16x AA and 16x AF .

Yeah but they are not all equal.

My Vapor X 7970 whined more than my SSC 970 does.

There's no reason to go through the hassle of refunds if the coil-whine doesn't bother you.

Like the others have said, almost all newer cards have some degree of coil whine. Mine is the same as yours OP. I can only hear it if i'm in a game menu screen or the FPS is very high.....and ONLY if i open the case and put my ear right near the card.

No reason to return it at all, in fact you might get one that's worse!

I had an AMD card way back that had such bad coil whine that it was like a dog whistle and had to be sent back it was so bad. Yours sounds fine.

You two have said what I wanted to say. Taking care of baby and typing isn't easy, lol.
