GIGABYTE GV-N760OC-2GD REV2.0 GeForce GTX 760 2GB
MSI Gaming N760 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 760 2GB

I'm debating between the two cards. Reading the reviews says the MSI is extremely quiet even under load. But the others are saying the Gigabyte will be even quieter because it'll never reach full load. Both can be overclocked and both have non-stock coolers. I'm planning on playing at 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 but I think both would work well in both. Also, the pricing is pretty much the same. If it matters, I'm mostly going to be playing DOTA 2, Civ 5, Simcity, Rome 2 Total War (when it comes out), and maybe BF4.

What are your guys thoughts?

The MSI gamer card is quieter at load, but you would need professional equipment to discern the difference most likely...Just get whichever one is cheaper and has a better warranty for the country you reside in. They're both good cards and should OC equally well (which is to say, completely luck based)

I have zero experience with either, but the MSI GTX 760 reviews have sold me on the MSI model being the best GTX 760 out there. It's rare for an air cooling solution to be extremely quiet even at load AND cool well.

The fans on the MSI GTX 760 are not the same as the fans on the MSI GTX 770.

They are far louder without improving performance.

The fans on the Gigabyte GTX 760 Windforce REV 2.0 seems to be identical to the one on the Gigabyte GTX 770 Windforce.

I would get the Gigabyte GTX 760 Windforce REV 2.0 over the MSI GTX 760.

This is not correct. Well, it is correct for the standard MSI 760. But he specified the MSI Gamer 760, all gamer series GPUs use a modified and quieter Twin Frozr IV design - and it is identical to the one used on the 770 gamer.

See for yourself: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127745

It is also better than the WF3 in terms of noise output with identical overclock capability (reference PCB, luck based). Also, there are minimal differences between the rev 1.0 and 2.0 windforce. One has a metal shroud (1.0) and the other has a plastic shroud (2.0). They are completely identical in noise and performance. I think the WF cards are awesome, but the MSI gamer is definitely quieter at load per the reviews at TPU and Guru3d. That being said, both cards are great and the best bet is to get whatever is cheaper and has the better warranty for his respective country - You really can't go wrong with the gigabyte or MSI, they're both great cards.

EDIT IN RESPONSE TO NINJA EDIT IN ABOVE POSTER'S POST:

I say what I mean. Don't put words in my mouth.

REV 1.0 is 75mm fans, REV 2.0 is 80mm fan and different shroud design.

The shroud design change is a huge different in itself, since it alleviates the windforce's classic problem of regurgitation and eating it's own heated air instead of directing it away from the card.

Back on topic.

The 3 degree difference between the equilibrium temperature of the MSI 760 and the Windforce REV2.0 760 can be easily converted to superior acoustics.

The acoustics disparity between the two coolers has the Windforce REV2.0 760 losing by .2 dBA at max load and .6 dB at "gaming" load.

I guess gigabyte's card is more quiet from the review on Tom's hardware.
it seems the overclocking performance of msi gaming card is slower.

I did alot of research in the last couple weeks when the stock on the MSI's had dried up, found something saying the rev 2.0 Gigabyte cards went with fewer heat pipes (not necessarily a problem), and were having issues with faulty caps, so I waited for MSI's to come back, scored one from newegg and got the rebate to get the gaming version for $249. Ordered the card last tuesday and it showed up yesterday, avoid the super saver shipping, it's not what it used to be. (7 days to come an 8 hour drive is pitiful).

I beleive the most useful info was in overclock.net's thread on the 760's.

Just throwing it out there. What about the Asus GTX 760? It only uses one 8pin connector and is shorter version of the GTX 760. It's also one of the quietest.

I am myself looking to get one for a gaming HTPC and that was going to be my pick. I think it's a worth a look. Cheers

Well, I looked at Tom's testing you linked, and they tested a Rev. 1. But I still don't know why anyone would want a Rev. 2 from Gigabyte. While the shroud and fans changed, as they had to, the pcb on the Rev. 2 was shortened (i.e. the Rev.2 isn't built on the 680 pcb while the Rev.1 is), which leads one to believe the oc'ing results seen in that testing wouldn't be as good.

Owners of GTX760 by MSI and Gigabyte, can you hear those cards in idle mode (assuming the rest of your PC is very quiet as well) ?

I knew my english wasn't that good, but I thought it was clear what I meant ...

Anyway, just as simple as it can be. When you use your PC for simple stuff like browsing the internet or watching a movie, but not playing games, so the GPU is not stressed, are you able to hear your GTX760 ? Of course, assuming the rest of your PC components are very quiet and you can't hear them.

while watching movie or browsing kinda stuff, gpu never stressed at all. and no noise at all.

only gaming and benchmarking it is stressed and while gaming we definitely feel the gpu power.

But MSI brand is really good even with high load , the sound is really low, it is quieter than others. Twin Frozer II edition.

Well looking at the manufacturer's websites it seems that the Gigabyte has 8 phase as apposed to MSI's 5 phase, while it would seem that MSI has better quality standardized components.

Both of these things would help improve efficiency, life time, and overclocking potential.

I do not know which card's advantages are more advantageous however.
