Gigabyte GTX 460 OC'ing

Hello. Wanted to ask, does anybody have any experience overclocking the Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB? It's already slightly OC'd, but it's safe to push it further, no?

And, how are the two fans for overclocking? Are they good or bad?

Edit: How does it compare to the MSI Hawk, cooler-wise?

Well, since no one responded, I will say my two cents. Basically, so long as you are not touching your voltage you have little to worry about when overclocking. This isn't always the case, but with the 460, you can bet your bottom dollar that it has some great headroom left without increasing the voltage.

When it comes to volt mods you are increasing the risk that something will burn out. This is particular more risky when it comes to video cards as they consume more power than a CPU/Motherboard, etc... Some of the video cards are consuming over 225 watts of power and that is a lot of heat to dissipate. You would still probably be fine, but just be careful and keep the temps down.

MY MSI cyclone hit 850 with stock voltage, and does 900 with 1.05V. Temps stay under 70c gaming and only get up to 75-80c running the OCCT GPU test.

I have my Gigabyte GTX460 overclocked to 760 with temps at 29 Idle and 46 load.

Not one reply? :(

You asked a very specific question regarding a very specific topic of concern.

Generally we expect members who post in threads such as yours to limit their contributions to staying on the topic as you created it.

That means out of the vast pool of folks here in the forum there might be only 2 or 3 who have the same card as you and thus are able to contribute to your thread without over-stepping forum expectations.

For example I have an MSI GTX460 1GB that I overclock...but you didn't ask about MSI cards nor did you make your thread topic general enough for me to talk about my experience in a way that would seem to be relevant to your request.

Just helping you understand why your expectations of forum interaction went unmet. Lots of people here with GTX460's, not so many with your specific Gigabyte card.

Id advice you to search for reviews of that spesific card OP. There is bound to be a review or two on the net.

Must be that Zalman cooler...

not true, my bone stock evga gtx 460 also hits 850 at stock voltage. 905+ with 1.087 v, that's as high as I tested and it was 100% stable there. my temps are <65 even on furmark at max temp, though mine is a 768mb version and they tend to run a bit cooler.

Your card has the fan in the middle (im guessing) and mine is in the back. My tmps are much higher than yours too...

you're in sli as well, however, that typically produces higher temps all things being =. I'll check it out when I get home, I don't remember where the fan in tbh, I just know that it runs very quiet and the card is tiny/light compared to my gtx 260's.

yeah... me and riferut have the same card...

for the OP...

i think it is safe to say that any GTX 460 can go up to the 800mhz mark or even 850 without even touching the voltages, if your card has solid capacitors, maybe you could touch the voltages a bit...

when overclocking, just watch the temps and increase the fan speed if your AUTO fan speed is not responding...

another thing, i think your card has a dual fan cooler so it will be able to control your GPU temps well...
