I just got a new 6600 gt agp from gigabyte, but for some reason the core clock is running at it's lowest speed. Is it because the drivers are messed up, or do I have a low end version? The model number was GV-N66T128D, and I was wondering if the "D" meant low end or something like that. Anybody know anything about this? And what does "HSI" mean?

The core clock is running at 300 mhz, but it is supposed to be running at 500 mhz. I can change the clock speed, but I'm not sure if it's safe to since I think I might have a low end card that doesn't run at the real speed.

If i understand the video card world, and i dont claim i do, most of the time isnt the low end card really just a high end card dumbed down somehow(unless you have an mmx then your screwed!)? Ive been told that they just underclock/overclock video cards to get the higher/lower speeds. You just have to know how to "unlock" the speed. This is more of a question to someone who knows than an answer to yours. ;)

The 300Mhz value you are seeing is the clock speed of the 2D core, which is correct for the 6600GT...The 3D core runs at 500Mhz.

Are you sure that it is the 2d speed? When I check, it says core clock speed. Is that the 3d clock or the 3d one?

Yes, I'm sure. To reveal the 3D clock speed, you're going to need to get CoolBits or something. The default drivers normally don't show it.

I hope this helps :

your GV-N66T128D has:
Chipset NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT+HSI
Memory 128 MB
Memory Bus 128 bit
BUS AGP 8X
Memory Type DDRIII 8Mx32
D-SUB Y
TV-OUT Y
DVI Port Y
MultiView Y
H/W Monitor N
Tools V-Tuner II
GAME 1
Software Power DVD 5.0

the other model is= GV-N66T128VP which has:
Chipset NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT+HSI
Mem Clock 1120 MHz
Memory 128 MB
Memory Bus 128 bit
BUS AGP 8X
Memory Type DDRIII 8Mx32
D-SUB Y
TV-OUT Y
DVI Port Y
MultiView Y
H/W Monitor N
Tools V-Tuner II
GAME 1
Software Power DVD 5.0, Power Director 3 ME

You can see the difference between the D and the VP; my guess is Gigabyte uses those abbreaviations to desigante a sub model of a main model. Based on what i saw at their web site (http://tw.giga-byte.com ; the info within my post is quoted from their site). the D model's memory clock is at 500/1000 where as the Vp model is at 500/1120. if your experimental and dont mind wasting money for another card (if this one blows out), you could try to flash the bios of your D with the VP update. on their site, theres 2 versions for the VP, one flash claims a 500/1120 and another version for the Vp, claims 500/1200 clock. I doubt you'll notice a difference based on a memory clock of 1000 to 1200; but, if you want the braggin rights why not go for it?

if you got some time to kill, check this out:

by the way.... I almost forgot to say = in computer terms HSI means = Hue, Saturation, Intensity.

I dont know if that is what it applies to for your card but it could be!

When I search up HSI, I get tons of crap. I don't really know what it means, but oh well. And I already saw those specs on the gigabyte site.
