I am about to order a complete new pc except the screens. my setup so far:

case: antec gx700
psu: seasonic 750w M12II Modular 80+ Bronze
cpu: intel i5 3570k
cpu fan: noctua nh-d14
ram: 16 gb g.skill sniper ddr3-1866 cl9
ssd: samsung 840 pro 256gb
hdd: 2x 3000GB WD Green WD30EZRX
graphics card: 2048MB Asus Radeon HD 7870
additional fans: 3x Noctua NF-S12B
dvd writer: LG Electronics GH24NS95

i intend to overclock everything a bit.
i will never use more than 1 graphics card.
i have 2 22" screens @ 1680x1050
i will only run win7 and ubuntu via vm.

now the big question is which board?

ASRock Z77 Extreme4 or Asus P8Z77-V LX2 ?

and for ram ripjaws x or sniper? cant really figure out the difference except the design. in some forum i read that the sniper has a more recent IC.

so far i would go for the extreme 4, because it has more features.
but what about stability and the most important point reliability?

or is there any hidden synergy, if you use an asus board & graphics card?

thanks in advance for your help :)

Is that ASUS micro board ? If the price difference is not too big. Grab the Asus P8 board, it will go soo nicely with your Ivy! stable like a rock no petty issues.

I would go with the asus board but thats just me...personal preference. If you feel you need the features of the asrock (sata3 connectors/usb 3.0 ports/fan headers?) then by all means get that one. As far as reliability the last asrock board I owned (FM2A75 Pro4) had an issue with the onboard realtek audio, but that shouldn't deter you if you are leaning that direction.

I don't know about the differences between sniper vs x series but it really shouldn't matter. I may be mistaken but i don't believe with ivy bridge cpus that the ram really makes a difference at all, even going from like say 1333 to 2133. So i wouldn't imagine sniper vs x will make any noticeable difference whatsoever. Get the one you like the look of better.

Also if you can afford it i would move up to the seasonic x series :)

Buy the Asus, I have the extreme 4 and it has several issues with USB. Unless the Asus has some regular issue that is worse, get it.

what kind of issues?
i read that in some other forum as well, if this issue always occurs, i'll have to stick with the asus board.

The Asus is a better choice if you are going with a Noctua NH-D14, which is a pretty heavy CPU cooler. Asrock's boards have been showing quality issues lately when it comes to mounting larger/heavy CPU Cooler's, particularly the NH-D14, with issues like distortion of the board causing uneven connection with the CPU and even minor cracking of the board near the mounting points.

I'd go with Gigabyte. It plays nice with gskill ram (in my 3 previous builds). I've tried other boards but they seem to not even boot with gskill ram and need Crucial.

But no complaints about gigabyte here.. rigs are stable.

Go for Gigabyte... Asus boards recently have crappy BIOS (I have tried P8Z77-V and P8Z77-M Pro and they both share BIOS issues)... Honestly, I wish I have gone Gigabyte instead...
