upon reading further reviews I really can't seem to make a decision.
I want to be able to upgrade in the future, but thats a long way away until DDR3 drops in price. Is it worth it to spend the extra $30 from the egg now? or save myself the money and the hassles and flaws of the combo board??

From what I hear, DDR3 isn't that much of a boost.
Most likely, when you do upgrade next time, it will mean a new mobo/cpu/ram anyway, unless you upgrade every 6 months.

Get the "C" version. You can upgrade to Penryn and DDR3 when it is cheaper and faster. Well worth the extra $30. How can you go wrong! It's a very good upgrade path if you ask me and you did. :)

I agree. I don't see the downside, except for the fact that it should only be ~$10-15 more expensive.

1. You've pretty much answered your own question in... "I want to be able to upgrade in the future"
2. What "hassles and flaws of the combo board" are you speaking of? Got any links that outline problems?
3. DDR2 didn't offer "that much of a boost" when it first premiered either. But now look at what people are using.
