Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G and OCZ Platinum Rev.2?

Hi everyone, new to anandtech forums.

Will this RAM and this board work? The specifications on NCIX.com say 1.8V RAM support, but this RAM I know (from the OCZ website) runs at 1.9-2.1V.

Planning on adding this RAM and upgrading to a E2160.

So I'm guessing they work together just fine?
I can always change the RAM voltage in the BIOS settings with a lower voltage RAM if I need to right?
 
Having troubles overclocking with this board. It seems the BIOS won't let me change any clock settings.

When I tried adjusting my clock settings for CPU (even by 1MHz) , the computer would restart (normal) and then after 5 seconds restart again reverting my settings back to default.

Anyone have ideas as to what my problem is?

I have the exact same problem with my EX38-DS4 w/ Xeon E3110 (E8400 equiiv).
I'm going around with Gigabyte tech support about the issue. I have talked to several other people that have had similar problems. One person said they resolved the problem by only using 1 stick of RAM, but that didn't fix the problem for me.

I had 2GB of OCZ Plat Rev2 ram, but upgraded to 4GB of Crucial Ballistix Tracer. I had hoped the memory change would fix the O/C problem, but the same thing happens.

I can underclock memory and cpu, and it still freezes and reboots when it looks like it is doing the memory post. As long as I leave the CPU clock to AUTO, it boots fine. I set the CPU clock to manual, and change just 1MHZ, it fails and reboots with clock control and SPD set back to AUTO.

Open a trouble ticket with Gigabyte. If enough people report the problem then maybe they will look into it more.

And to OP, the OCZ Plat Rev2 ram worked for me at 1.8v, but I found that I got the best performance with it set to 4-4-4-15 and +0.2v (2.0v).



 
Yeah I'm worried about this problem because I'm planning on upgrading to E2160, and if I can't overclock it then I think it'll be bottlenecking my 9600GT.

I hope they release a BIOS update or something soon to fix this problem.
 
I'm thinking that my next motherboard won't be a Gigabyte. The problems I've had with my EX38-DS4 and recent P35-S3G haven't been pleasant. Just when I thought that I had found a good motherboard company...

 
They are a good motherboard company. These overclocking issues don't seem to be isolated. Aside from that this board is awesome.
 
Same issue here with the GA-P34-S3G. I change the FSB by 1mhz, I get double booted. I tried disabling Speed Step, upping the vcore, changing memory, cpu (from a Q6600 to a E6400) and I resigned myself to the fact there is some issue with the BIOS or the board
