Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 Audio Issue

I just started having a problem with sound playback on my computer. I'm using the Realtek onboard sound on the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 mobo. The audio is only playing on one channel (the right channel). I built the computer over six months ago and had no problems up to this point.

- It's not the speakers, I swapped several different sets.
- It's not the cable, I swapped it.
- I updated the drivers to the latest version.
- I rolled back the drivers to the version the mobo CD.
- I reformatted and reinstalled Windows Vista (needed to anyway).

So my question is: am I missing something, or has the onboard audio chip gone bad?

I have just built a system with this mobo (XP SP2 and 3) and cannot get the onboard sound to work. It first was OK from the rear ports, but did not detect the front panel, now the rear is detected but there is no sound. I have tried the latest drivers from both Gigabyte and Realtek. If you're still watching jbroughton, did you manage to resolve it, or is it indeed a faulty sound chip? I do have an ancient Creative SB Live! Value soundcard plugged in too, but the onboard sound is enabled in BIOS.

I just realized the other day I had audio problems as well. I had been using my Audigy 2 since I originally got the board, but decided to give the onboard audio a try. The rear outputs don't work at all even though they are detected. If I set it to 7.1 instead of 5.1 and manually assign the rear outputs to "side" I get sound. That doesn't help much since I have a 5.1 speaker set-up and most software won't output rear audio to the side speakers. I don't think the actual outputs are fried since they all seem to put out sound, but something is wonky in the Realtek drivers or the controller itself.
