Hello all,
I've just bought a Gigabyte GA-P31-S3L (moving from ASROCK 4core-dual VSTA in order to overclock)and it's up and stable but I have a few issues / queries. -
1) Is the CPU Fan header flaky on these boards? Often the fan on my Arctic Freezer Pro will jerk several times on boot then fail to start. (If it does start-up then it never goes above 935Rpm). Initially I thought that maybe it was because my temps were low and the fan need not spin. But as I ran Orthos the core temps began to climb towards 43C and yet still the fan remained off. I can't seem to take manual control with Speedfan. I've tried disabling the automatic fan control in the BIOS (and also setting it to both Voltage and PWM) but still the fan either fails to start or stays ay 935Rpm. I've resorted to plugging the CPU fan into a fan controller on my case and controlling it manually which works ok so this is no big issue I suppose.
2) My +-12V rail reads between +4 and -16 (!!?) in Speedfan, Sandra, HWMonitor etc. (Akasa Paxpower 500W). However in the BIOS (and Easytune 5) it's sitting at 12.15V and I haven't had any stability issues. Are the third-party software programmes misreading it do you think?
3)I can't seem to get my backup IDE Hard drive and sole DVD drive to work on the same IDE cable. I set the DVD drive to Master and the HD to Slave and vice versa but the BIOS will only ever see one or the other - any suggestions?
4) In CPU-Z I notice that sometimes the multiplier drops from x9 to x6 (E6600). I presume this is the EIST power saving feature feature?
Sorry for all the questions - any info appreciated
