Hi all,

I checked the gigabyte website but i wasn't sure if this mobo supports pci-e 2 video cards. Just wanted to know what would be the highest video card i could stick on this mobo to use for gaming purposes.

download gpu-z and it will tell you about your PCIe x16 slot.

2.0 cards will work on a 1.0 or 1.1 slot but not to their full potential.

Thanks, I'll try that out. Although right now the PC isn't hooked up to anything so i was hoping someone might just know what this mobo supports.

I know a 2.x card will work in a 1.x slot. but if it turns out this mobo only has 1.x then I'd rather upgrade the mobo/cpu

It sounds like the mobo has pci-e 2 - i just wanted to double check. I shot an email off to gigabyte support, hopefully they'll know

after some diligent searching, it appears that your board only supports PCIe x16 @ 1.x.

this motherboard supports only PCI E 1.1, but 2.0 and 3.0 are supposed to work with 1.1 motherboards.


many of the lower priced AM3 boads used the old Nvidia chipset, dating back to the 754/939 days, it has suffered some minor upgrades and name changes, but still pretty much the same old nforce 6100 + 430 or 410, even if it's called 7025/630 (still 7025, the IGP is from the geforce 6-7 era, should give you a clue about how old it is), so the features are what you would expect back in 2005... PCIE 1.1, HT1000MHz (optimized for AMD K8 s939/am2), but since HT kept compatibility and the memory controller is on the CPU, it can work fine, even with a FX 8350...

Thanks a lot for digging up that info for me. On a somewhat related note - is it worth investing in a mobo and video card that PCI-E 3.x ? Since this mobo only supports pci-e 1.x i'm going to replace it - just wondering if i should go with 2.x or 3.x ?

that would depend on the intended usage of said system.

any new board will support 2.0 or maybe 3.0.

This will be mainly used for gaming. I just did a quick search on newegg and it doesn't seem like pci-e 3.x is all that expensive. So I'm probably going to lean towards getting a mobo that supports 3.x. Doesn't make sense to me to pick up something that's already been replaced with something newer if the newer pci-e isn't all that expensive. The quick search i did showed a decent looking asus mobo for $140. I didn't check any of the other mobo manufacturers yet so might be able to find it cheaper then that.

to get pcie 3.0 your going to have to go with intel and a 7xx series chipset. I haven't seen any amd boards that support 3.0 yet.
