Hey all
i'm planning to upgrade my pc, and the first step is to replace my cpu, mb and memory.(now i've: athlon xp 1700+, Asus A7v133, 512 mb sdram pc133... LOL).
i'm kinda lock on amd athlon 64 3000+(s754, 2.0ghz, newcastle), but my biggest prob is the choosing of mb... :-(
my budget is around 60$-70$(to the mb alone of course), i know that there are alot of chipsets platforms out there(Nforce3,Nforce4, Via and so..), i don't really sure what is best fit to my needs, i only know that i want it to support ddr400(pc3200), and it should has agpx8 slot(cuz of my old video card: ati radeon 9700). i heard about gigabyte ga-k8ns, what do u think ? is there any other good and budget mb ?
what are ur recommendations ??

I think you can build either a good upper or lower end system based upon the K8NS. Although, might I suggest that you spend a few more dollars and go with the s939 version and allow yourself the ability to upgrade in the future. The s939 version has a new Bios just out that supports the FX60. In addition, the BIOS has plenty of tweeking options and gigabyte has a great overclocking tool that allows you to experiment while running in the OS without having to continuously go in and out of the BIOS. The new rig I recently put together has been running for over two months with not one hiccup. For my money, either verson is a great value.

I would also advise you to get a Socket 939 processor... They have the advantage of dual channel, plus they will still be around for some time, which cannot be said of Socket 754...

If you care for AGP, I'd advise buying an ASRock 939Dual-SATA2, it's a very good motherboard, and the best thing about it is that it has both an AGP slot and a PCI-Express 16x slot for future upgrades... It's very cheap as well...
