OK, I'll try not to make this a 4 page post but here are my basic problems:
Here is my specs just so you dont have to ask:
Gigabyte GA-K8NS socket 754
Bios version is F8 or F9 I believe
Amd 2800+ Socket 754
Chaintech Geforce 2 AGP4x (el cheapo, just need it to run, not play games)
512 MB Crucial DDR PC3200 Ram
480W Powersupply with a 16amp 12 volt rail Powerlab Brand
Lite-On DVD-+RW 16x
80 Gig Western Digital HD IDE
First off this is my second Mobo from Newegg, the first GA-K8NS wouldn't even post so I had that RMA'd and now I have this one. Ok when my mother board posts it specifically says "cpu clock speed 200 mhz" now I have a 2800+ which is 1.8Ghz so right there is something weird, but maybe its just saying the clock speed of the ram but I wasn't sure.
Also I'm getting random reboots and freezes during Windows setup to install. I was able to format my hard drive with NTFS and get to windows setup but everytime im in setup, it will either completely freeze or just reset. I have an old windows xp disk from when it first came out so I don't have sp1 or sp2 on the disk.
I've gone through the bios and the processor speed is set to auto, but ive tried changing the multiplier but no matter what I set it to, it still resets or freezes. The temps are not getting hot, usually around 30c or so and the heatsink for the chipset isnt even that warm so I don't think heat is the factor here.
I've got a better powersupply in one of my other computers but I really dont want to take it out and try that unless its a last resort since I need that computer up and running. But I do have a suspision of a crappy powersupply.
One other thing, I have suse linux 8.2 live which can run from a CD. I ran that a few times and it reset on me a couple times but I was able to get into it finally and the cpu speed said it was 1.8 ghz, but it seemed like it was running slower then a turtle.
So basically I'm stuck and can't get windows to install, and the mobo still reads the cpu clock speed at 200mhz. Any Ideas guys????
