Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 verse GA-EP35-DS4

Would someone explain what you get with the EX38 for around $40 more and is it worth it.

I want to get a quad core (9450 or 6600) to use with the board.

And is there another board that you would check out instead in around this price range ($175-210)?

The more SATA and USB connections the better. And ESATA would be nice.

The GA-EX38-DS4 has:

Dual Gigabit LAN controllers
Full PCIe 2.0 crossfire support as opposed to the 16x/4x solution
"12-phase" power regulation, same as the DQ6
Official support for FSB1600/DDR2-1200 (though the EP35 also advertises this via "O.C.")
-unfortunately no SATA from JMicron controller

the main diff is the full crossfire support and better power regulation. Is it worth $40? Probably only if you go xfire. If you're looking to oc then you might consider the ip35 pro, they're about $145 ar right now but they've gotten as low as $99 at newegg.

This is where Gigabyte really screwed up IMHO. The P35-DS3R has 8 SATA, but yet the more expensive, and "higher-end" (DS4 is higher than DS3R) board, has less, only 6 SATA. There is an advantage to having two seperate SATA controller chipsets, as you can use one set to IDE mode for installing and booting XP, and one set to AHCI and RAID mode for storage drives.
