Hi all,

Let me start by appologising if I have posted in the wrong forum. i think this question falls betweek OS and Motherboards, as I believe its the bios settings that are finally going to fix this I am starting here.

Problem: When loading vista 64bit, I soon get a driver install screen which asks me to load a driver.

I have my sata hdd emulated as IDE, I have tried using the sata mode using AHCI but it says there are no new devices.

Either way I am hung up at this load driver screen.

my mchine is

mobo gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R
RAM gskill 8GB
CPU Intel Quad core
graphics XFX nvidia

Anyone know where to start??

Set your bios back to the default setting and all will be well. Make sure you turn off the Marvel controller also.

If you use the AHCI or RAID functions, you can run into problems with older Hard Drives.

I set the machine back to defaults and flashed the bios as I was unsure whether my quad core cpu was supported

I currently have win xp installing just to prove that the system is working and can install an os.

After that I am going to take the machine and try and install vista home premium 64 (my desired OS)

If anyone has any suggestions or comments I would love to hear.

All I want to update you.

Eventually today with lots of different suggestions I narrowed the problem down to the DVD player. I assume the dvd player was too slow or the firmware was too old it was from 2001.

Anyway after using a different dvd player vista loaded first time like a champ and did not stop to ask for any drivers or anything. now I have a working installation.

thanks for all your help

Dominic
