i'm looking for to purchase one of these MB's for my new Q6600 setup. i have 4 74gb raptors i want to set in a raid 0 configuration hence the "R" option. however, i have another option for the the disk array using a promise 4-port raid pci-e card. how does the onboard raid compare vs. an external solution? i'm looking at a $10 difference between the "R" and "L" versions.

the other option is to opt for the newer p45 and get a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3x board instead. i don't mind paying the extra amount if i'm going to get a significant improvement over the p35 boards.

comments? suggestions?

Get the EP35-DS3R. Or if you want to use the raid card along with the onboard, then look at the model that has two PCI-E slots, either the DS4 or the DS3P (I think).

reading some of the threads here, people seem to be flicking their thumbs at these gigabyte boards. i'm thinking of sticking to what i have, and using an nvidia 680i board i have lying around.
