I build my C2D system yesterday and everything worked out fine. Today when i turned on my computer i got the classic no video card detected series of beeps (one long and 2 short) and i was like o_O

After a reboot the everything worked out fine again ... hmm ... then i turned it off and on again and same problem occurred.

To make it easy for any of you guys to help me out here is my system configuration:

Motherboard Gigabyte 965P-S3 rev 1.0 with bios updated to version F6
Processor Intel E6400 with boxed cooling
Memory Kingmax KLDD4-DDR2-1G800 able to run @ 1,8V
Video card ATI X300 (soon to be replaced by X1900XT if i solve my problem and the new PSU arrives)
Power supply Allied AL-A400ATX (this is temporary as i have ordered a Hiper HPU-4M530)
A 80GB WD Caviar IDE Drive (temporary drive)

Note: When I managed to turn it on I was able to OC the processor to 3,2GHz (8x400) with ease and it was stable for the entire duration of the tests i performed.

Is everybody as clueless as I am or perhaps you don't understand my problem to it's full extend and I should make things a bit more clear. So here it goes a hopefully more clear description of my problem.

In order to turn on the computer I need to: power it on and after the no video card not detected error (one long beep followed by 2 short ones) I reset he computer using the reset button and after that it boots fine and I can use it. I am baffled by this weird way of a computer to turn on and I don't know what to do to solve this. I like to add that the computer is not overclocked in any way everything is set to optimized defaults.
If I overclock it, when I turn it off then on again it wont boot no matter what I try until I clear bios and then follow the procedure described above.

Please help me out ...

(This new post is meant to clear up things, i hope, and a bump as almost 24h passed and nobody replied, if you think I abuse my powers I want to say sorry in advance)

I have the DS3 board with the same problem. Always a pain to get it started but once i get it going it runs fine. I'm not sure if its a video card issue or a Mobo issue. Ive heard of others with the same problem but have not seen a real fix yet to the problem. I have contacted bot the video card maker and Gigabyte. Both blame each other. Im using:

e6400
EVGA 7950GX2
Rosewill 550W
Super Talent DDRII 800
Raptor HD
F7 Bios (ive tried em all though)

I think the pci-e bus or the pci-e 16x slot is/are flawed. I spend a full day at one of my friends and played around with all his hardware. I found out that using a PCI (33mhz) video card boots OK every time. So i investigated further and i found out that my pci-e video card ati x300 is 1x transfer mode instead of 16x and still 1x with a x1900xt. Here is a picture of cpu-z: http://img482.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cpuzlw3.jpg

Yesterday i put in a cheap 6200LE card and all problems went away. I could overclock the crap out of if it(420X8) second try. The boot problems went away too. My 6200 shows link width as X16. With my Geforce 7950gx2 it only showed as X8. I still have a hard time believing its the board though, why else would it run so good with just swapping video cards.

For example:

Using:
Gigabyte 965P-S3 rev 1.0 with bios updated to version F6
Intel E6400 with boxed cooling running @ 3,2 GHz (was tested for stability - 4 hours in orthos beta)
Kingmax KLDD4-DDR2-1G800 running DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 (was tested for stability with memtest86+ 1.65+ 4 cycles)
Asus EAX1900XT/2DHTV/512M @ XTX
Power supply Allied AL-A400ATX + Hiper HPU-4S425

I scored only 14679 in 3dmark 2003

and using (my friend rig):
Asus A8N-E
A64-3200+ @ 2,4GHz
Asus EAX1900XT/2DHTV/512M @ XTX
Value DDR-400 Ram
Hiper HPU-4S425

Managed to score over 17k in 3d mark 03

So I think there must be something wrong with that 1x transfer mode

hello Pureevl,

I have a similar problem with the same MB....

Mine boots fine, but any kind of reset (reset button, restart/reset windows or reset thru bios) makes the monitor loose signal... so basically the system boots but there is no signal going to the monitor/video card... I have tried BIOS F3,4,5 and 6.. no help :(

Tried heaps of different options in bios.. no help...

I thought I would wait for a bios update... but now I see a new problem. I noticed that my 3D mark was low, wasnt sure what it was.

Turns out my PCI-E link is also set at 1x... I againt tried all the different bios and nothing helped.

Can you tell me if you got the same MB or different brand?

Thanks,

yapa

Yeah what did you switch it for? And does the DS3 have the same problem... I was hoping to get one of these boards.

Well I found my own solution, swapped board for ASUS P5B-E, no problems at all with same components.
