Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Vcore help please!

I have E6600 on this motherboard.
I am using the latest BIOS F11.

If I set VCore to auto and enable C1E and EIST, VCore and CPU clock are automatically dropped when not under load. I like that. It keeps the core really cool at idle.


But, if I raise VCore, and leave C1E and EIST still active, the voltage never drops!
Why?

How can I raise VCore and still have VCore automatically drop when at idle?

Some boards like Asus P5B Deluxe will disable C1E and EIST when you crank up Vcore. The Abit IP35 boards work fine as long as you stick to default CPU multi.

I prefer to set the vcore on manual, the auto setting on the DS3 is too 'generous', it gives more volts than needed, esp if you OC , this raises temps unecessarily. So I have mine at default volts (1.325) and works fine at a 3ghz OC (if auto, it would get to around 1.45v or so). The auto setting most likely interferes with the C1E/Eist function.

I have a 965P-DS3 Rev1.0 with the latest BIOS (which is ACTUALLY F12) and have the same auto-clock regulation as you do. This has happened since BIOS F4, BTW.

This board will drop the CPU multiplier if C1E and/or EIST are enabled. I have C1E enabled and EIST disabled and my clock goes from 400x8 to 400x6 automatically if the CPU isn't in heavy use.

I have had my E6400 overclocked to 3.2GHz(400x8) since the first day I got it; about 20 months ago. I've had no issues.

If your OS is stable and you get no crashes while gaming or whatever, don't worry about it. Enjoy your nice overclock and be happy.

F11 is the latest I can see on that link!

So does mine. My problem is that VCore is not reduced automatically unless I set VCore on auto. I have no problem with the CPU multiplier.

If your OS is stable and you get no crashes while gaming or whatever, don't worry about it.

I just prefer lower temperatures if possible.

I overlooked that you have rev. 1. Mine is rev. 1.3, with F11 as the latest BIOS.

It's funny; there don't seem to be a lot of Rev1.0 boards around on this IBB. They've either all blown up (Markfw9000) or been replaced by I35 boards.

I've not had a single hiccup with mine in the 1.5 years I've had it! Granted, I've always had good case cooling and a good PS...and I've not REALLY beat the snot out of it yet.

My current OC of a E6400 @ 3.2GHz (400x8) can hardly be called "abusive."

We'll see what happens with the G0 Quad I got today. :evil:
