Ok I am trying to set up the following system:
GA-8PE667 Ultra
Intel P4 2.26 Ghz 533FSB w/ retail HSF
1g Hynix PC2100
Matrox G550 AGP
When I hit the power button all I get is a short series of beeps gollowed by a continuous series of rapid beeps that coincide with the power led blinking. Absolutely nothing on screen at all. I have never run into this particular problem before and it has me stumped. I thought that it might have been the vid card (Maybe it was a 3.3v only.) but this is not the case.
I have checked all the connections, re-seated the memory, video and cpu, the ps was in use with another board the same day. I also removed the bios battery to reset the bios and this made no difference either. (On a side note, anyone know where the bios jumper is on this board?)
Gigabytes manual is no help, nor is their website (So far)
Any clues at all where I should be looking?
Thanks!
Rob
Edit Ok I did some more testing, came up with the following:
Bare m/b, no beeps at all. Fans alll spin up etc but nary a peep from the board.
M/B with cpu only, same beeps as noted before, makes no difference from this point on what I add or remove. I have pulled and reseated the cpu several times with no affect.
Soooo is this pointing at the cpu? or possibly the m/b? This the only p4 setup I have so I can't swap things around...
I am about to throw my trusty P3 setup back in and call it quits on the P4 scene...
Edit 2 Ok another update, I pulled the 12v to the cpu and there was no beep code..
Any ideas at all?
Final edit... OK I tracked it down to bad/non-compatible memory and the board boots fine now. Just for the record, with Gigabyte m/bs a series of fast beeps indicates memory problems.. On Asrock boards it is a series of 3 shorts beeps.
