I just built a new computer in the last few weeks and everything was running great on it. However, I just installed my scanner's drivers and software on it, and now the thing takes FOREVER (like 2-3 min) to POST and go to Windows. Any ideas?

Gigabyte GA-8KNXP motherboard
P4C 3.0GHz
2x 512MB Corsair DDR400
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Seagate 120GB serial ATA HDD
Windows XP Professional

Let me know if I left anything out.

Check your registry to any links to the software.
Maybe try installing it and revoving it again.

I have experienced a somewhat similar problem on a Gigabyte 8IPE1000 Pro mobo when I boot with a CD (non-bootable) in the CD drive. The machine seems to be searching the CD and takes forever to post. If I take the CD out of the drive, it posts very quickly. This may not be related to your problem, but it may be that delayed posting can result from loading various drives or drivers. If you solve the problem, let us know how you did it.

Well, I pretty much decided that it was the memory. I opened up my case to look at something else and jiggled a few things, and now it POSTS normally. WTF? Well, whatever, as long as it works *knock on wood*.

Brainwave: I'm not sure if this could be a problem but try making sure that in your boot order, the HDD is set to boot before the CDROM drive. It could be looking for something to boot off that CD, and when it doesn't find anything it finally goes to your hard drive and sees the OS.

I have this board and its been nothing but problems for me. As far as POST time is concerned, I have a SCSI RAID controller installed and the mobo BIOS goes all crazy and takes like 20 seconds to find the correct boot device even though I specifed the order Floppy, CDROM, SCSI and then in the SCSI menu, put my RAID controller first. Did you get your mobo to run in Top Performance mode with your Corsair XMS? I have the same Corsair XMS TwainX 2x512MB and when I enable Top Performance mode in the mobo BIOS, POST locks up for me when it gets to the SCSI RAID BIOS. I'm thinking Top Performance is PAT in the 875P chipset.

I thought I had this fixed but the problem resurfaced the next time I booted up. I tried updating to a beta BIOS (F6E) but there was no change. Then, I e-mailed Gigabyte and their tech sent me a newer version of the BIOS (F6K). If anyone is having problems with this board and wants to give F6K a shot just e-mail me and I can send it to you.

PS: I highly reccomend using the embedded Q-Flash utility to update the BIOS. Its extremely easy to use and there's no messing with iffy Windows programs or having to go through DOS and all that.

Do you have any other IDE devices - like hard drives or CDROM drives? They might be the problem - try disabling the IDE controllers in the BIOS and see how that impacts it.
