any one use this? Looking for a basic board, no need for frills, just need stability and reliability. I was going to get an Shuttle AK31, but the gigabyte has onboard lan and sound (it's a creative chip.. and the sound i would be getting would be somewhat similar... the cheap but decent cmedia thats on the AK35GTR).

another question is how loud is the sound output? the cmedia is a quite a bit louder compared to my old vortex2... just wanted to compare.

cost is a factor here.. so i dunno if it's worth it.. the ak31 is $76 vs $109.. but then won't need sound and nic (roughtly $20 each.. depending). if stability is virtually the same, might go w/ the onboard stuff. this is for a friend.. and maybe eventually me (the gigabyte cause it will fit in my case.. not the shuttle).

appriciate it.

Well.... umm I havent had so much luck with 2 GA-7VTXE which is the little brother of the GA-7VTXH+. I really LOATH the motherboard with so many issues with Win2K and XP. Though Gigabyte put out a BIOS update I wouldnt touch it with a 9 and a 1/2 foor pole. There's a link to THG (Toms Hardware) just click Here! Plus the board did not perform so well.. ohh well look for a soltek or the epox (bang for your buck)
I'd opt for a AMD 761 DDR chipset since it is very stable. Well if $$ is a factor.... well good luck on that one ;)

kt266a is the right chipset to get today, But I used one of these on my parents new PC and have been having some "sluggishness" problems. I'm going back over this weekend to try and figure it out.

hrm.. nforce/kt266a big differences... i've heard good things about their 761 boards, which is why i was looking at the kt266a.. i think i'm going w/ the shuttle for my friend, it actually still comes out just a bit cheaper. i'm still curious about the gigabyte for myself because i'm limited to under 24cm for the board width (don't ask :)). altho, i probably will wait till the 333a.. that's when i'll actcually have money.... heh

I love my GA-7VTXE. Incredistability. Don't know what KGB is talking about since I use 98SE. However you may want to look for a non-"+" version of the board because all that is is ATA133 which adds like $10 and is totally useless.
Try it!

[edit] on Anand's review, this board is one of the top performers.
