Gigabyte GA-7VRX vs. GA-7VRXP

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can't quite figure out what the difference is between these two mobos. I've looked at various review sites, but they don't seem to help. Even the Gigabyte website is a bit sketchy. I'm thinking the difference is in USB 2.0 support, but I'm not sure which is higher-end.

What's the performance difference like between CT-5880 and AC-97 sound? Is it better referring to CPU utilization or the actual 'sound'??
 
this is the exact question that i have

should i pay the extra for the VRXP over the VRX ???
in Aussie dollars, i can get the VRX for $168 and the VRXP for $240

is it worth the extra cash???

ideally if i had the money i would go the VRXP but a bit tight for cash at the moment...

what are the exact difference?? as i have read conflicting stories.
my suplier lists the VRX as ATA 100, but i know it has to be ATA133, not that it makes much difference
my supplier lists it has having 2 USB's with 2 extra, while the giga-byte sites says 6 with 8 max
giga-byte says it has 2.0 USB--


has anyone bought one of these boards ??

for a down sized KT333 i am thinking maybe the Soltek KT333 board as it has Mem and AGP voltage adjust, the giga-bytes dont ,well dont appear to

it appears to me the things the VRX is lacking is:
1. RAID
2. Additional USB's that come with, but still capable of 8
3. different sound chip
4. onboard LAN
5. smart card reader

have i covered it all ???

i would love the extra IDE channels, but i think its not worth all that extra cash
having said that, ill probably get the VRXP 😀
 
From what newegg has, 7VRX does not have Raid, Lan, or the creative sound (it has software based AC97 sound). As to the other ? it does have RAM voltage adjustments but I forgot if it has AGP (I own the 7VRXP).

the VRX is listed has NOT having Mem and AGP voltage settings,
so theres another diff
be curious to know if the VRXP has AGP voltage settings too
 
I got a VRXP, it has AGP and ram overvolt. AGP is done via a dip switch bank.

The creative sound is equivielent to the 128 pci. I use the lan as my main connection, it goes 24/7 no porbs. This board is by far, my fav. board.
 
I have also been considering buying one of these two boards. Here in the U.S., the price difference is as little as $15 (Pricewatch) so the scales tend to tip towards the GA-7VRXP. (I personally think that $15 is justified by the RAID, LAN, and improved sound.)

After reading the messages on the Gigabyte forum linked in Crazy Saint's reply to this thread I think I'm going to reconsider the MSI or the Epox.
 
it definately would be worth it, consider the price of PCI RAID cards.....

wish the price gap was that close here 🙁

I have heard of these problems, but never experienced them. I have not really tried to overclock with this board much either. This is NOT an overclocking board. The reveiws I read stated it is a jack of all trades....

IMHO, there is nothing to beat the GA-7VRXP in terms of the best "overall" KT-333 mobo in the market currently. Extremely stable (following the Gigabyte tradition of high stability, average performance mobos), very good features like CT-5880 sound, lan, raid, dualbios, etc.
 
Well, I don't plan to use RAID, I already have a LAN card, and I'll likely be getting a separate sound card anyway, so I guess the 7VRX is the better choice for me. But if I can get the 7VRXP for a similar price, I might go for that.
