Hey all,

I've just bought the Gigabyte GA-7VAXP motherboard and have installed the AMD 2700+ XP chip. Unfortunately, I couldn't get hold of any DDR PC2700 RAM so I'm using DDR PC2100 RAM in the machine for now.

Clock Ratio is set to Auto by jumper.

  1. 1) The machine dies without a whimper when I select 166 Mhz on the SW1 CPU Clock jumper (doesn't even seem to run POST)

    2) The machine runs when I select 133 Mhz on the SW1 CPU Clock jumper. BIOS recognises chip as XP 2100+ (seems a little unstable though this may have been connected with a faulty RAID setting)

    3) The machine runs and is stable when I select 100 Mhz on the SW1 CPU Clock jumper (BIOS recognises chip as XP 1500+)

Is it possible that the PC2100 RAM is restricting my options? If not, can you suggest any method to get it up and running at the 166 setting?

Thanks in advance to all.

Did a search and found a similar thread... sorry guys should have thought of this first.

Yup seems it requires DDR333 ram. Ho hum.

Great site here by the way. I found it by accident in a websearch on HotBot and have bookmarked it already.
