Okay, this is overly frustrating. I was mucking around when I realised my bios wouldn't respond to any keystrokes. So I changed keyboards and tried again. So, I have used both a Wireless USB keyboard, a Wireless PS2 Keyboard, and two different Wired PS2 keyboards. Assuming that I had changed an option, reset the bios. Now when it starts up it says, "CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded" press F1 to use defaults, Del to enter setup or F9 for express recovery. So i hit del, nothing happens, hit F1, nothing happens, hit F9, nothing happens. Tried this with my large assortment of keyboards also.

PLEASE help me.

Thanks

Are you using the correct PS/2 port? The green one is keyboard, purple is mouse. If that isn't it then you might have a dead PS/2 port, period. PS/2 devices are not really meant for hot-plugging, so do turn the computer completely off before swapping stuff. :) Good luck, and welcome to the Forums.

You might consider resetting your cmos by using the reset cmos jumper. You may have mis-configured something in the BIOS.

When I put the PS2 connecter in half way, the lights on the keyboard light up. When I put it in the whole way and boot the computer the lights dont show up at all. On my other computer, when I boot, they do. This means my troubled computers PS2 port is broken, correct? The problem with the second post is that Gigabyte mobos dont have jumper setting switches. So the only way to reset the BIOS is to un plug the power, then the BIOS battery and then put it back in. When I do that, it asks me to press F1 to continue, but it wont respond to F1, Del or any other keys, that is the problem.

Another insanely confusing thing is that when I use my Wireless USB keyboard and hit Del half way through the memory check, it slows the process down. its like the BIOS is saying to itself, what is that thing pestering me, I will just slow down and ignore it. I don't understand that at all. No matter how many times I press/hold it, it just wont listen.

Should I try for a USB wired keyboard? Would the BIOS respond to that? I reckon I would have wreaked my PS2 ports. But another screwed thing, when I could get into Windows I turned off my comp, removed my Wireless and pluged in my PS2 mouse and keyboard. Neither worked. I mean, I have never hot switched a PS2 mouse because that was the first time I had used one in that comp. I am reading my manual and it says there is an option "USB Keyboard support" - DISABLED (default) I NEVER touched this yet it used to respond to my Wireless USB keyboard.....A while back I changed an option in the BIOS, that I can't find now, had something to do with not detecting keyboard at startup. That is probably when the problem started, but I can't seem to find that option anywhere in the manual, so maybe I dreamed it??

I honestly don't understand what is going on. Why work then decide not to, why have an option disabling keyboad use when the only way to get into the BIOS is via a keyboard, I am so unbelievably confused. There doesn't happen to be a IRC Channel which is related to computer help?

Sorry for the huge post but PLEASE read it all. I can't RMA it because I lost my reciepts....and I don't want to pay for someone else to fix it . And I am sick of using my Mums Windows 95 Pentium 166 beast.......
Thanks

Been told by a couple randoms that it is most likely my BIOS battery gone crap. So I will be replacing that tomorrow and hoping for the best.....

If replacing the battery doesn't work, it's probably the PS2 port on your motherboard. As a last ditch effort, you could try resoldering the connections. That may or may not work because hand soldering to repair a multi-layer board is iffy, and the connector, itself, may be faulty. If resoldering fails, you're in for a new motherboard.

Good luck. :)
