Hi Folks,

I am currently using a Duron 800 on a stable Asus A7V133.

Though, its upgrade time for me, as I finally have the time and money :)
I would like to have a motherboard that'll will be more or less future ready,
in terms of CPU and RAM upgrades.

I stumble upon the GA-7DXR, I could not find too many reviews of it, but those
which I could find, were very good ones. Moreover, I could find it in a very
appealing price where I live.

So I was wondering if someone can give me his personal opinion regarding this board
or even suggestions for other mobos which will fit my preferences.

I would like to continue using my Duron and to get the Palomino once its out.

I'd appreciate your replies!

Thanks before hand,

Oren

Buy it, you will not regret it, excellent board, remember if you are going to populate all three dimm slots with 256mb or larger DDR modules you have to buy Registered memory.

Hi,

Actually I am planning to have 256 MB by Mushkin.

Moreover, I am not into overclocking.
I was wondering if there is any other motherboard with more or less
the same preferences you can recommend?

Thanks,

Oren

orenm,

I would buy Crucial or Corsair memory instead of Mushkin for DDR. If you are not into overclocking then the Gigabyte 7DX version 4 is an excellent board. However, just about any AMD761 board is very good. As for the KT266 boards, the current Gigabyte 7VTX and Shuttle AK31V2 are very good boards that out perform most of the AMD boards. If you are price sensitive then the best purchase at this time would be the Epox 8K7A which also overclocks great.

I was reading up on this board at Gigabyte's site last night. It looks like it's a great board. A little pricey but seems like it's worth the money.

Bingo13,

I was wondering, as I cant seems to get the Corsair or Crucial DDR memories here,
what would you say about the KINGSTONE KVR266X64C25 256MB instead of the Mushkin.
Or, I can get something called Buffallo 256MB ?!

I am not quite familiar with DDR memories, so please excuse my ignorance.

Thanks,

Oren

orenm,

I would stick with Mushkin ahead of the other two brands. Their regular 256mb chips ($95) should be okay, they will not clock as high at Cas2 as Crucial or Corsair but they are guaranteed to work in most boards now. Their basic 256mb ($45) modules I believe still have the Samsung memory chips, stay away from those as the Samsung DDR memory has had issues. I would double check with their customer support group as they might have changed by now on the basic modules. They are an excellent place to do business with and have great customer service. They have the new High performance memory coming out shortly that should do well but is priced a little high. Side question, why can you not get Crucial or Corsair but can get Mushkin?

Bingo13,

I am not living in the US and I can only get the Mushkin, Kingstone and Buffallo arounf here.
Though, as I am going to be in North Carolina next week, I am considering to order from Crucial.

Any recommended model I should order? Do you think placing the order directly from their website
is a good idea?

Thanks,

Oren

Yes, placing the order from their website is a great idea, since they'll give you at least 10% off and free 2nd-day Air shipping for doing so. And if you want another 15% off, place your order through this link: Crucial.com Webpromo

Can't go wrong with Crucial; I ordered 2 256MB PC2100 DDR chips from them on Friday, and they arrived at my doorstep on Monday. :Q
