Do you have to use ECC ram if you want to fill all three slots on the Gigabyte 7DXR?

This was just brought to my attention in another thread, but he wasnt absolutely sure if this was the case or not.

Anyone know for sure?

I have just built a machine using GA-7DXR (check my sig) and I bought 3*sticks of crucial PC2100 256Mb and Windows 2000 couldn't complete the final parts of the installation, it would hang. Took 1 out and all is fine. Saying that Gigabyte UK told me they knew of no problem using 3 sticks, but it definitely didn't work on my machine.

Hope that helps, If you have any more questions about the board just ask, and what a great board it is.
Tell me if your going to use one as I found there is a few things you have to do to start with, the board seems to be set to boot from the backup bios first.

Hope that helps.

You need Registered RAM. ECC doesn't matter however you usually see them together.

Yes and no. You often see "ECC" RAM bundled with Registered RAM. You'll need Registered DIMMs to use all 3 slots, just like you'll need Reigstered DIMMs to use the 4 slots on the new ABIT KG7-series. This is why most mobos only have 2 DIMM slots - the 3rd and 4th slots make you use Registered RAM because of signal noise, etc.
