All happy with my new Gigabyte GA-7DXR, Athlon 1.4G "AYHJA", 768M of Crucial DDR, Quad 60GB IBM 60GXPs, FireGL 4, Pioneer A03 DVD-R, Dual Eizo L675 LCD flat panels, and just-installed 2.0Mbps SDSL connection, I went and ordered a big, honkin' Swiftech MC462-A from Bestbyte.net, along with some AS-II. I installed the standoffs on the motherboard, prepped the heatsink and CPU in strict accordance with the instructions at ArcticSilver.com, gently begin to place the HS onto the processer and WHAM! - one damn capacitor is in the freakin' way! Unfortunately, the capacitors on the 7DXR are mounted right against the modo without really any room to move them. I "nudged" the cap over a bit, but now my system won't display so I think I accidentally popped one of the contacts which runs to the AGP slot. Everything else seems to work fine, I just can't see anything.
It appears the only way to safely mount an MC462 onto a 7DXR is to remove the offending cap and solder it back on with about a half-inch of wire, so you can safely move it out of the way without putting any stress on it and damaging your motherboard.
Total bummer!
The Horta.
