I just got this motherboard and I am now uncertain as to what drivers to use and not to use.

I've been told that Windows XP has all the drivers that I will need. Yet I read on the web that you should use drivers from Via's 4-in-1.

I'm kind of confused here.... what drivers have you guys used?

The research I have done indicates that you shouldn't need the 4-in-1's with XP. Some have said that they used the AGP mini-port drivers, but not that many. Just need your latest video card drivers most likely. You could always try it and run some benchmarks. Then apply the 4-in-1's and do it again, but I think that would be a waste of time.

Thanks for the advice Buz, was thinking of doing exactly what you said. That is, just install Win Xp and use their drivers for the mobo, and then install the drivers for my video card and everything else.

BTW, where did you do most of your reading on this subject?

Hey there...

What I did was install win XP normally, then install the via lastest 4 in 1 ( XP comes with 4 in 1 but they aren't the lastest ). It is important to note that when you run the via4in1.exe for installation, it automaticly detects that is dosent need the AGP driver ( AGP being handled by AMD 760 ) and it install the rest. You wont gain any performance in games and all but it update your HDD and PCI drivers with is not a bad thing.
Hope this help...

I see... Guess I'll try out the 4-in-1's. Worst comes to worse, I'll just uninstall them.

Also, did you install any of the drivers that were supplied from the mobo CD or Gigabyte's Website?

Thanks for the advice!

I have the 7DXR+ . I just used the default XP drivers then went to windows update and got the newer drivers it had for my system. Don't know if this is the right way but my systems running fine.

I am not sure you will stand to gain anything in the way of functionality or speed by installing the "newest, latest and greatest" 4-in-1's on top of what XP has to offer. The drivers that XP will install are updated from time to time, as referrenced by Wayward. The easiest course would be to make sure and update your install of XP and run some benchmarks. If you are running within acceptable norms there is no reason to pollute things further with additional driver loads, IMHO.
