Basically one of my hard drives puts itself to sleep and I hear it spool up everytime I play a game like WoW or something after a long period of idling.

How do I disable this hard-drive idling mode. I checked in BIOS and there is nothing there.

I have a Velociraptor, is it possible that the HD sleeps itself without some mode being on in the MOBO?

Velociraptor.

Thanks.

Hey there,
I have the ud4p board and a velociraptor. I was wondering if maybe the Gigabyte Energy Saver software was installed on your system. I have only had this rig up for 2 days now so I have not had alot of time to find many quirks. One I have found is when I run that software, and put it in advanced mode, my hard drive light will flicker at intervals of a second or so and the power light will go off while it is doing this. That is a strange thing and not really worried about it. In any case, it is still rare to see threads on any X58 boards at this point. Maybe a moderator or someone will start one with a sticky for general issues. I don't think hard drives come with any kind of firmware that would cause them to go into an idle mode. I would think that would conflict with the OS. I have not experienced my velociraptor doing that so I would say it is likely that if you are running the Energy Saver, try running it without to test.

I say if you don't care about saving energy,.. don't install the energy saver software!!!

The gigabyte boards run fine without it and personally,... I like wasting energy, it helps keep the earth warm and cozy
