Ok if I restart my pc or just turn it on from a shutdown the night before the pc will start and mid way through the post my pc will crash. It gets all the way up to the memory part and just restarts my pc. then same thing it gets all the way up to the memory part and restarts. this will happen over and over again. till i kill the power to my powersupply then turn it back on after about 10 to 15 sec. after i do that it starts fine.

my current computer configuration
1. gigabyte exteme x58
2. core I7 proccessor
3. 12g corsair ram
4. 3 x 280 gtx
5. 80 Intel ssd for operating system
6 2 velo 300 gig drives raid 0 for games
7 one extra 500 g drive
8. 1200 thermaltake powersupply

If you need any more info please feel free to ask. this problem is really aggrovating and if i could get it fixed i would appreciate it.

and to my knowledge i have the most recent bios updates.

Try taking out one stick of ram and running it in dual channel mode, see if that helps anything.

I had a ex58-UD5 which is pretty close to that board. It came with the F3 bios which is the latest non-beta bios available on their website. I never had a gigabyte motherboard, this was the first one i bought because i bought all the marketing hype and it seemed like people were saying it was a good board. Well, it isn't, it doesn't work with 12GB of ram, at all. Same rebooting problem you describe. My recomendation to you is either A) get yourself a copy of the F4 beta bios which will probably fix the problem. B) take out half your ram until the F4 bios is officially released. C) Get an ASUS board and forget Gigabyte like i did.

Sorry for my negative tone toward gigabyte, but i have been running ASUS boards for a long time and the bios in the gigabyte motherboard feels like im back in the 90s. Not well layed out, slow, and buggy. The board hardly works with 12GB of ram which is unacceptable, it will be a really long time before i buy a gigabyte board again.

That is an awesome rig, i hope you have some better luck with it, this core i7 stuff is like public beta right now.

The latest BIOS for all Gigabyte X58 (and probably every recent Gigabyte motherboard) can be found here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/f6...yte-latest-bios-28441/

I believe that is the official board for Gigabyte. I had a pretty simple/easy question about my GA-EX58-UD5 and was pointed in the right direction.

As I post this, the current beta BIOS for the GA-EX58 Extreme is F5a. They are updated so frequently, that may change before you even read this! For OCing, people seem to like F4j and F4m as they allow higher Bclk.

Since I've had no problems at all on my board, I'm sticking with F3 for the time being.

Most recent is F7 BIOS. I updated mine due to not being able to boot with a higher than default Base Clock. Runs good for me now at 140 instead of default 133.

alan,

I had a very similar problem than you did. Sometime my PC will crash during post and sometimes it will reboot over and over again until I switch off the powor supply. Most of the time it will just crash during post with a continuos short beep.

Gigabyte support suggested that I test my RAM individually in single channel (I used Memtest86 to test) and I found one memory module generating error. I have replaced my RAM and I have not had any problems since (two weeks now).

I am not saying you have the same problem but it would worth testing you RAM so you can eliminate that possibility.

Good luck.

Just built rig with Gigabyte EX58-Extreme, Intel Core i7 975 Extreme, 2 - BFG 9800GTX, 12GB Corsair 1333 DDR3 memory (HX3X12G1333C9), 2x1TB WD SATA & 700W coolermaster PS.... Getting same problem. Computer posted just fine after build with no overclock settings changed. After initial reboot, computer tries to post but then gives continuous short beeps followed by a reboot and then starts over again. If I shutdown workstation for 10 minutes or so, it boots just fine. After installing Vista 64Bit ultimate and restarting, same problem. Have to power down for a bit and then power back up to get up and running. Changed memory voltage from 1.5v to 1.64v and this did not work. Any ideas would be great!

good to know about this problem since i was eying gigabyte x58 boards. but truthfully, 12GB is overkill. 6 is plenty.
