I have three systems at home with this motherboard, and on all three the northbridge ("system") temp is high, usually 40-44 degrees Celsius, while the CPU temp is around 28. No OC at all, and the system is at idle (in BIOS).

Is this normal for this motherboard? Or should I look at taking off the heatpipe config and redo the mounts with better thermal paste?

I suppose it would depend on your overall case cooling. My system temp (I assume also thats NB, measured with HWMonitor) says it's at 38c right now. Its OC'd to 450FSB, but it also has a 120mm fan blowing across it (Antec 1200 case, the topmost fan blows across the RAM and NB to the CPU).

The "system" sensor is not the P45 chipset. The P45 doesn't even have a temp sensor on die. For the UD3P, the "system" sensor is located on or near the southbridge
