how can i get this sucker to OC I tried uping the multiplier to 10 but did not work.

CPU speed 3ghz at 9 multiplier x 333 fsb at default voltage

Ram at 400 at default voltage (1.8v)

SYSTEM:
Gigabyte EP45-DS3R rev 1
QX6850 w/CM vendetta hsf
4 gb (1gb x4)OCZ Platinum pc6400

For one, try loading BIOS defaults and then flashing the BIOS, even if you've already flashed it. The board may have to be RMA'ed. For your 84C CPU temp, definitely reseat the heatsink. Maybe not all 4 pins are on fully.

Did you set the mouse as USB in bios? And if you did then follow the jedi's advice. Also, 84c is way to hot for that cpu, I would pull the HS off and look how the TIM is on the cpu. I just bet, it is not seated correctly.

reseated the hsf and the temps are stable at 46C

kybrd and mouse still do not work, even in dos.

ok, i restarted the install from scratch and got windows up and running with bios updated to f9.

now the new issues is speed.

the bios has default or auto values loaded. The cpu multiplier is set at 9 but Easytune (gigbaytes OC utility shows fsb at 333 and multiplier at 6 with cpu speed of 1997.

shouldn't it be running at default of 2997 ( fsb 333 x multiplier 9)

specs:

CPU qx6850
memory ocz 4 gb @ 800mhz 1.8 v
FSB is at 333

Have you been happy with this mb?
I read the reviews on newegg, and it seems 50/50 on if you receive a good board, or one with problems.

its been 50/50 for me too. I think the bios is the issue, coupled with DES interfering with voltage/fsb/OCablity. Its a good idea but not properly implemented. I have got it running but not upto full potential speed of the system. I am running a qx6850 (a 3ghz unlocked multiplier cpu) @ 2ghz cuz cannot get a definite read on the multiplier; bios multiplier set at 9x but windows cpu utilities report it as 6x.

Tips:

update to the latest bios before installing any os
use a windows xp sp2, to avoid the dreaded pci.sys Bsod attributed to Pcie 2.0 support.
read up on bios settings for your cpu before hand, (literary need a tutorial on plethora of bios settings and options)

Run something that will Stress the CPU.. it will then run full speed, .. You have speedstep enabled, and it will read like that until you stress it use OCCT, or Orthos

Mr. Fox is trying to give you some pointers here.....If you want to understand what the multiplier fluctuation is all about, go Here and it will tell you what you need to know.

You might have to bump the Vcore voltage up a bit before jumping the multi up to 10. I've never used an unlocked CPU so it was always high FSB's for me. My E8400(9 x333) runs at 9 x 423 FSB with core voltage set in BIOS @ 1.35625v and FSB voltage set @ +0.25v above default on a gigabyte X38-DQ6 and is 24hr rock solid stable. I didn't have to add any voltage to the MCH for this result. =)

I bumped up the cpu voltage to 1.35v and ram to 1.86v and FSB set at 350. No luck

I too haven't had the experience with any unlocked chip. But I do own this board and I do own a Q9450 which sits in it as we speak with an OC of 3.4. So, with that being said, let me give you some bios info settings that I have and you might be able to gain your OC.

Since my chip is based at a 8X multi,
I have it set at 8 X 425. -----------> remember this is for my OC @ 3.4
My chip has a VID of 1.25v.
In The tweaker section, here are some settings:

1.30 Vcore ---------> yours will be probably higher as it is a 65nm chip
1.16 cpu Term <----as this went higher, my OC's Had errors or BSOD's
Cpu PLL auto
Cpu Ref auto

MCH 1.2
MCH Ref .774v
MCH/Dram Ref auto
ICH 1.5
As for your ram timings, put them at default specs.
MCh Freq Latch 333
sys memory multi 2.00 for 1:1 ratio

your RAM may be holding you back. As you raise FSB Mhz your RAM will go up too unless you changed the RAM multiplier to keep it at 800 or less. Your RAM voltage is not that much above the JEDEC spec'd 1.8v and if you are overclocking that too because of your choice of multiplier, it will throw errors when stress testing the CPU.

Got 3.24 ghz on

CPU multiplier 9x
FSB 360mhz
CPU voltage 1.325v
MCH voltage 1.2v
RAM voltage 2.0v at 864 mhz (ratio 2.6D at 400 mhz with timings at 5-5-5-15)
Memory settings at NORMAL w/ RAM driving strength at 800 mhz

Changing some of the subsettings to "Normal" seems to do the trick.

next challenge is to get it stable at 3.3ghz (367 x9)

next challenge is to get it stable at 3.3ghz (367 x9)

Try these settings:
Cpu Multiplier: 8x
FSB 412Mhz
CPU Voltage: 1.350v-1.375v (add more to compensate for vdroop if you have LLC to disabled)
MCH Voltage: 1.24v-1.28v
Ram Voltage 2.1v-2.15v (raise it a notch or 2 if HCI memtest fails)
FSB Voltage: 1.32v-1.34v
PLL Votlage: 1.50v-1.57v
ICH Core: Normal
Northbridge Latch: 333 " 2.00B - 1:1 (Adjust this ram timing, TRFC to 54T and leave all the subtiming to auto)
Disable EIST/C1E etc. Don't disable Multithreading

400Mhz strap is too loose on that setting, so you're better off running the 333 strap and using the 2.00B option as it will keep your nb/ram to 1:1 sync.
