Hello, I have this mb: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4091#bios
So I assembled the PC and everything is fine, but when I try to Q-Flash BIOS to a new version, it recognizes the new bios file, starts loading it but then it tells me something like "Your flash utility is outdated. Contact gigabyte.com blah blah" I don't understand what could be the problem. I'm using a normal 4gb flash, even tried formatting it and result is the same.
Q-flash version is 1.01. I have no idea how to update it if it's possible?

on the website it says "* Please use the latest @BIOS or EFIFLASH.EXE to reflash BIOS
" which might be the reason why the q-flash is failing.

Might have to make the usb flash stick bootable and use the efiflash utility that is in the download, instead of using the q-flash from the bios

Ahh, thank you, Dahak. Do you know how to make usb flash bootable? It would be great to flash BIOS before installing windows.

You can use the following tool HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8

And you would need Win98 boot files

Just install the hp tool and run it.
Select your usb flash drive
select fat32
click on Create a Dos Startup Disk and point it to the folder of where you extracted the 98 boot files.
hit start.

once done you can copy the files from the bios download to the flash drive, it will probably ask to overwrite the autoexec.bat file. Select yes and when you boot off the flash drive it will start the bios update from the efiflash utility automatically

I have another question and didn't want to create another thread:
Inside the uefi bios, there are some settings that I do not understand and could not find explanation on google no matter how hard I tried:

It's called simply "Network stack" and choices are "disable link" and "enable" What does it do?

I would also be very thankful if someone could explain some other things in this bios:
Execute disable bit - I know what it does, I know the risks, but are there any benefits to disabling it?
CSM support - basically if I'm using win8, I can disable it?
EHCI hand-off ?

Also there's a choice to change "intel turboboost technology" to auto, enable and disable. Why does this choice exist on H61 + G530 ? o_O

Execute bit - should not really matter, i would leave it on. There is only a very few rare cases where it would need to be off

CSM support - from what i could find is for supporting legacy bios option roms, ie the rom of the addtional sata controllers, usb controllers etc. So if you have some plugged into those, you may need it on. You can turn it off and if something does not work you can turn it back on.

EHCI Hand-off - not fully sure, but from what i can find, its seems ok to have it disabled. its for older oses to properly use usb.

Intel Turbo Boost, auto = will turn it on if the chip is capable, enable = force it on, disabled = turned off completely. Best to leave it at auto

Network Stack, im guessing that is to turn on or off the nics on the motherboard

But both h61 and g530 are locked, so does it really make any sense to keep it on auto instead of disabled?

As for network stack, it's disabled by default and I think there's another option to control nics.
