So yes, that's my problem. Just to be sure I put in only 1 stick of ram in the first slot. Tried with both sticks. When powering up it will do a beep, that seems to get interupted, not entirely sure. I doubt it's one long and 1 short beep, which would mean memory trouble. It might just be the normal post beep, but that shouldn't be the case, right, because without a videocard it should ALSO beep, letting me know no videocard is installed. The PSU does power up and so does the powerled from the case. Even weirder is, the led on the mobo NEVER powers up.
But let's assume the ram is just fine. I continue by plugging in my xt2900 512mb videocard. Now it doesn't beep at all? It doesn't even spin up a single thing, it simply doesn't do jack? The PSU doesn't budge. How can this be? Faulty videocard? I find that hard to believe to be honest. Or is it a dead mobo?
Advice would be greatly appreciated. I've had to troubleshoot new builds before and it usually worked out, but now I'm at a complete loss. Things are contradicting each other. This is the beep list btw.
1 short: System boots successfully
2 short: CMOS setting error
1 long, 1 short: Memory or motherboard error
1 long, 2 short: Monitor or graphics card error
1 long, 3 short: Keyboard error
1 long, 9 short: BIOS ROM error
Continuous long beeps: Graphics card not inserted properly
Continuous short beeps: Power error
I'm pretty sure I would know how continous long beeps sound, as well as 1 long and 1 short.
