Hello all,

I've built a new computer with the Gigabyte DS3 ver. 3.3 mobo but I have this very annoying problem, It won't detect my 2 USB toshiba hard drives with generic enclosures though they work fine on all my other computers and laptops!!!

My specs of the new PC are:

DS3 ver 3.3 mobo
E6400
4GB Elixir RAM DDR2 800
Geforce 7800GT
WD 160 SATAii Hard drive
Thermaltake tough power 750 watt PSU
ThermalTake swing case
LG 18X DVD-R/RW

Any ideas ?
The only way I could use these hard drives is to use them on my laptop and share them with my new PC !!!!!!!

Thx

Not sure, I'm using the drivers on the CD, Today I'm going to buy vista 64bit if available and download the latest drivers.

Any ideads ?

Ok, will still give some ideas... :)

What ports are u using? Did you try to use different ports? Don't know if it can help but...
try everything. Drivers, bios USB settings etc. The problem is probably in the chip that this generic enclosure uses... dunno.
If u get it to work, let us know how you did it. I'm interested.

Tried all the ports, and tried all BIOS settings and still no luck !
Though that hard drive worked well on a friends PC with a GA-965G Motherboard.

Go into device manager and remove all of the usb ports listed. After you do that force device manager to scan for hardware changes and let it reinstall the drivers for all of the ports and hubs. Retry your device and let us know if that fixed the problem. If it did then recheck your connections, it's easy to plug onto the wrong header since firewire and usb have the same physical connectorsn or you might have misplugged in on the header missing the pins (I've done that before).

The DS3 has no firewire ports, I unpluged the front USB ports and used the rear ports and no luck!

Perhaps there's one more thing to try... it's probably stupid, but do try to set the mobo to boot from USB device(your external drive in enclosure), and be sure to turn all USB things in bios on, like usb legacy etc. What version of bios do u have? Just see if it even tries to boot from USB... if it does, then you might have something, if it doesn't, then well...

how much did generic enclosures cost? Perhaps if u need these disks real bad on this computer, you may want to buy something else... i'm not sure what else to try. It's a really stupid problem.

Like i said earlier, i tried stuff to make that stick work on my computer, but it was all in vain.
I simply didn't use that stick anymore on that computer. USB ports obviously work, and the drives also obviously do- so it's probably some kind of compatibility problem.

Not sure about the virsion of the bios, IT IS EITHER f10 OR f10A !!!!!
I'll make sure today and try to boot from USB devices to see what happens.
I hope it is only a BIOS related problem !
