Hey I'm new on this forum, I heard peoples there were qualified so I'll try my question.

And by the way sorry myself for my english I'm not a 8 years old kid only someone who's first language isn't english :p

I planned to built a PC for one of my friend and the DS3 was the model I chose but I heard somes were having problems with theire Optical drives is this still true by now?

He don't need any Sli capables motherboards so one pci-express is enought.
He doesn't think of overclock also so I don't need a reliable motherboard on this point.

The parts would be:

E6600
Gigabyte DS3
Corsair pc2-5400 2x1gb
Evga 8800 GTS 320mo
Seagate Barracuda 320gb
1 dvd writer and a dvd drive. Probably IDE but I'm aren't sure anymore

If you think a other motherboard would fit my needs better be pleases to suggest it

Thanks you :p

Plan A: If you already have an IDE optical drive, use that. If you run into problems, go to Plan B.
However, if you have not yet obtained an optical drive, I'd advise paying the few extra pesos and getting a SATA optical drive.
Plan B: Pay the few extra dollars and get a SATA optical drive.
Memory: Given low current price premiums on PC6400 v. PC5400 memory, I'd suggest going with PC6400 memory.
Overclocking: at least a mild overclock should be easily achievable.
Board: The DS3 version 3.3 is still an excellent choice, with future upgrade potential to 1333 MHz FSB CPU's.
PSU: you'll need a quality 550W or better power supply.
Cooling: Maybe replace stock Northbridge heatsink with an active cooler, such as the Thermalright H-05.

I have an IDE interface ASUS CD/DVD combo drive on a GA-965P-DS3, it has no problems.
Rev 3.3 is an awesome board.

I agree. The DS3 Revision 3.3 is still a very good motherboard and will be for some time to come.

Good choice...

Yes, the Samsung SATA DVD-RW drive performs very well.

Edit: There's better prices at zipzoomfly.com on PC6400 Corsair memory, if you can arrange ordering from them to Canada.

Hey I just fall on the 650i ultra EVGA motherboard review by anandtech and this chipset seems to be really interesting.

I read also there wasn't any major problems

Is the 650i Ultra the only chipset that doesnt include SLI? It could be THE one for me :p

I don't know yet the price in canada (still not on NCIX.com)

What do you think between the 2 ?

If you're not planning on Raid, use only the orange Intel ports.
HD on first (Port 0), optical on 2nd (port 1).
However, if you want to enable AHCI, the purple JMicron ports work better, since Intel
currently has no AHCI drivers for their non-raid ICH8 chipset.

Edit: The 650i Ultra board may also be a good choice. I've never used an nVidia chipset board. Between the DS3 version 3.3 v. 650i Ultra boards: whichever one is lowest cost, I guess. For optical drive, I'd still recommend NOT investing in a NEW IDE drive; go with SATA optical + either board.
