Gigabyte DS-3 motherboard BIOS reset

This may be a stupid question but here goes anyway.

I was playing with the fan control mode in the bios and tried to activate an apparently bad combination causing a bios reset. After selecting a valid combination of fan control method (Intel QST) and control mode (PWM), and booting into WinXP I get a request for a PCI simple communications controller driver.

Why would a bios reset cause this and any ideas how to fix this? There is no modem on this board...

Sounds like you may have enabled a device on your system board through the BIOS settings. If it was not previously enabled then Windows would have no way of detecting it.

You should let Windows search for drivers, and if that doesn't work, visit your motherboard manufacturer's website to (hopefully) download whatever driver(s) you need. Hope this helps, and remember - if it ain't broke, don't fix it 😉
