Gigabyte controller or Intel ICH9R?

The motherboard I have is a Gigabyte P35-DS3R v2.0. What I'd like to know is if I will get the best performance using the ICH9R chipset or the Gigabyte chipset?

Offhand I'd say the ICH9R seems a little quicker. I know the ICH9R is much improved over the older ICH8. I had a 965P-DS3 and reviews showed better performance using the gigabyte controller that time round.

So does anybody have a definitive answer? I can't seem to find any reviews that have compared hdd performance (specifically SATA drives in native IDE mode not RAID). Maybe Ananadtech did one but I must have missed it somehow?!

yeah, that would be a good topic for an Anandtech lab test & article.

heck, i was happy with ICH5R, on the Asus P4C800.

faster than U-160 SCSI with a 10K RPM drive, it seemed.

To the naked ear it sounds like my HDD is doing less activity with the ICH9R chipset than Gigabyte. That's hardly scientific is it :) Yes, hopefully someone willing is reading this...
