hey guys, im having some real issues with this board. first of all, i found that i cant get raid to work and have it see my ide dvd drives at the same time. then i decided to unplug my raid drives and just have a single seagate plugged in to the ich8. i then tried to install windows, and its now hanging at "setup is starting windows". what the hell do i do? is the board broken? do i need a sata dvd drive to install windows? i would appreciate any help here.

I installed Vista using my old NEC DVD-ROM. Make sure you set the right options in the BIOS: enable Gigabyte controller and set Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode to AHCI mode.

make sure your system isn't over clocked while installing windows :( and also update the driver to the latest.

I experienced lockup installing windows on my 965P-S3. It stalled when installing driver for LAN. What I suspected, on mine, was that the NB chip overheated. The problem didn't occur if I start the install when the MB was not hot or changed the factory NB heatsink to Thermalright HR05.

Did you have the MB on long before the install?
