There are many ways to get this to work, but the easiest and best setup is this:

Have a SATA Cd/Dvd drive - NOT IDE.

Plug-in the hard-drive in the SATAII0 (TOP) PURPLE gigabyte controler.

Plug the sata cd\dvd drive in the first ORANGE SATAII port (as recommended).

Boot and enter bios (Press the delete key when prompted).

Go in menu #3, and DISABLE THE FIRST AHCI OPTION (Integrated SATA controler). This will make your standard Intel ICH8 ORANGE plugs run the cd\dvd drive as standard sata drive.

Still in this menu, change the On-Board Sata controler to run as IDE Mode (3 Choices, IDE, AHCI or Raid&IDE). This will make windows setup see your hard-drive and avoid BSOD.

Once installation is complete, launch windows and install the LATEST gigabyte sata raid software from:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Sup...el.aspx?ProductID=2456

Reboot, enter setup (DEL), go back in Menu #3, and LEAVE THE FIRST AHCI OPTION DISABLED. Change the On-Board Sata mode (PURPLE PORTS, GIGABYTE CONTROLER) to AHCI.

Save and exit to reboot.

------------------

This way of doing things save you :
- The IDE cd\dvd burner disapearing.
- The blue screen of death on windows install or boot.
- Having to play in registry or cracking intel ICH8 software.

Hope this helps.
