I want an E6300 because of its overclocking niceness (and cost, 'course)... but this machine will be used for media encoding, not gaming. So Gigabyte's GA-945GM-S2 at around $99 is very attractive, since it has onboard (Intel GMA 950) video, saving me the cost of a card. Of course, the problem is the older 945 chipset.
Will I be able to OC on this board? I'd like to push the chip up to around 2.2GHz. Stability is crucial. I'd rather wait a few months for prices to drop on the faster chips and MBs, rather than buy this now and worry about BSODs.
The board only supports up to 667MHz RAM. Will 800MHz RAM (OCZ EL DDR2 PC2-6400) still work in this system, but at the lower speed? Will I notice a significant (>1-2%) speed hit by going with the slower RAM clock? I'd rather get RAM I'd be likely to use in the future.
$99 for this is hard to pass up. I know I can count on you guys to set me straight.
