I configured a Windows XP machine with a Gigabyte 8IEXP motherboard. The USB was working fine and then all of a sudden stopped working. I downloaded the newest drivers for the usb from gigabyte's website (Intel ICH4 USB 2.0 Driver). Once these are installed, all the USB ports begin working again. When I reboot, Windows prompts for drivers for a new piece of hardware that is USB related. If I tell it to automatically install the drivers, it installs them then the USB ports stop working again as if it is installing the old drivers again. If I click cancel and don't let it install the drivers, then the ports continue to work fine. It is showing up with an exclamation point in device manager. anyone know why this is happening? is this windows file protection related? i need to make it so that it stops prompting me to install drivers each time i boot the machine. Thanks!
