I'm getting a bit frustrated again with a giga board. This is the setup:
7vt600 f6 bios
xp2400
samsung 333 c2.5 512 in slot 0
ati 9000Pro 128
wd 120g 8mb
cendyne cdrw
toshiba 16x dvd (slave)
floppy
It boots into the first screen detecting all the hardware, then goes to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper left corner. I have reinstalled everything a bunch of times, finally disconnected the cdrom and it booted into the post screen and asked for the windows cd. put that in and it went thru the agreement and formatting and then , back to the black screen. I swapped vid cards, put in a 9700pro, swapped memory, put in 512 corsairc2ll. Went thru the same process, thru formatting and got the same results. The mobo switch is set to auto for 133, 166 fsb. the bios timings are pretty tame. If this time doesn't do it, gonna swap the hd with another one and try. any other suggestions?

swap IDE cables, try another one. Pull the jumper in the WD drive (known issue), another slot for ram. You never know.

Hey hoot, when you say pull the jumper on the hd, do you mean leave it off. I just swapped a 40g wd for the 120 that I had in and it worked but I just realised that I didn't change the jumper on it. It is still jumpered as a slave. The 120 was jumpered as master.. Is this the issue you mentioned. Do you think the 120 would work if I put it in as CS or with no jumper?

Hey hoot, you're a genius! I switched the 120 to CS and fired it up and there was the windows that I've installed about 7 times. Put all the original hardware back in and there it is. working fine. What do you think of using a 9700Pro and Corsair XMS as back up hardware? I figured if it didn't work with that, it wasn't going to work.
