gigabyte 7vrxp problems

I'm having constant problems with the new system I just put together. It consists of a gygabyte 7vrxp, AMD XP 1800, crucial ram, and a geforce4 4400. First off, I can't even get it to post if I set the CPU fsb to 133. I have it running fairly well at 114 mhz. It is still constantly rebooting on it's own (it has never just locked up, it always reboots). Anything I'm missing that needs set in the bios?

What brand and model of power supply are you using with the system? Is the power supply new, or have you had it a while? What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

I've tried a brand new generic 430W as well as my slightly used Antec 300W. I've changed RAM and video card which didn't effect things. What really gets me is it won't even post at 11.5 * 133. Bios needs cleared whenever I try that.

There is a small switch on the board that you need to set for 133mhz FSB. It is set at the 100mhz FSB position by default. If you just change the FSB in the bios, you are still using a 1/3 PCI divisor and your PCI bus is waaay out of spec. It's on the lower right hand side of the board near the front panel connections..

Everytime I've changed that switch to off it would not turn on. Should I have to change the FSB in the bios to 133 first then turn it off and change that switch?

One other thing to look at whenever you use a new power supply... make sure the slide switch on the back of the power supply is set for the right voltage (110v/220v). Since your Profile says you live in Ohio, I assume you have 110V-115V. :D

No, you should set your bios to the fail safe defaults or better yet clear it first. Then turn the switch to off and boot up. :)

I'm pretty sure everytime I clear the bios then set the switch to off it won't turn on. I'll try it again though. I don't need to touch the jumpers for the clock multipler? I had it set to 11.5 for a while but it's back to AUTO now. The cpu should be locked so I don't see how that would matter.

Yeah, I would leave the multiplier switches at the Auto setting. It should work...if not then you might have a bad board or something. :(

i've had similar problems with this board. I can get it to boot to bios, but it wont boot from either a disk or cd. AND if it didnt suck so much it would be funny but my mobo cpu temp reading are around 130 celcius. Thats right folks, thats not a misprint, celcius. In other words, i could cook stuff pn my cpu. The first time i saw that in bios I almost had a heart attack and i shut my comp down immediately. I reset my heatsink and tried again. No change, but I figured if that truly was the reading my processor would have been dead already, which it isnt. Soooo, even if i do manage to get this board up and running, i will still have to RMA it. A broken temp sensor on oc mobo doesnt make ANY sense. So I will be sending the board back Monday. I'll try it again one more time with a replacement. Hopefully the second will install uneventfully.

Yeh my clear cmos jumper was missing too. I replaced it from another board and i still cant boot. Plus the cpu temps are still way out of whack.
