Gigabyte 7nnxp pata raid problem

ok ive got a Gigabyte 7nnxp mobo, installed all drivers except for one, the PATA raid driver. I didn't put it in (F6 or woteva) at install, cos the FDD i had to make from the CDROM didn't work and i only needed the SATA to install from. now whenever i try to put the PATA RAID driver in (ITE chipset i belive) windows will not boot. Gets to the windows xp loading bar screen, fades in for ~3 secs, pauses/hangs for ~3 seconds, fades the rest in, pauses/hangs for ~3 seconds, the bar scrolls for ~3 seconds, pauses/hangs for 3 seconds, bar scrolls, etc etc etc. Spot a pattern? This continuses and it doesn't get any further. Reverting to configuration before RAID driver installed allows it to boot again.

Why does it do this wierdness??

thanks.
