Gigabyte 7NF-RZ network issue..

Hey everyone.. I just set up a new machine with the Gigabyte 7NF-RZ motherboard. I'm running an xp 2400 chip, 2x 512 ddr 400 memory. I installed xp professional, and then ran the motherboards' setup disk. Windows detected and installed the onboard network card ok as well as the video and sound. It shows up as "NCIDIA nForce MCP Networking Controller. I plugged in my network cable and tried to get online but am not getting anywhere. I tried the same cable on another computer (right next to it) and it works fine on that one. I put an additional card in the computer and downloaded the latest F4 bios for the motherboard. I downloaded the other files that they recommend for the nforce chipset and those installed. After rebooting, xp detected the onboard nic and there was a little icon moving around on the network icon near the clock. It said " obtaining ip address".. and that's all it does. Never recieves an IP address and I get a baloon saying i may have limited access blah. I do an ipconfig all and i decide to hardcode the ip useing the working nic's ip address, subnet, and gateway to assign to the onboard nic. still cant get online. Hoping this thing isnt' doa. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't have any restrictions in dhcp on the router or anything.
